Hi, I just have a couple of quick newbie like questions... This is my
first case (Antec PLUSVIEW1000AMG) with a fan in the side, should it be
intake our exhaust? And secondly, I have 5 total 80mm fans (2 in back,
2 in front and the one in the side) should I hook as many as possible to
the motherboard (Super Micro P6SBU) or should I just run them all off
the power supply with adapters? I'm moving a system that was
overheating into this case and I've upped the power supply from a 250w
to an Antec 400w dual fan so hopefully power shouldn't be an issue.

The most important thing to do is consider airflow. Basically, you want
cool air coming in the bottom of your case and exiting the top - don't fight
that. Also, your power supply is blowing warm air out the back - also don't
fight that. Also, you want airflow over your warm components - video card,
motherboard, etc. Do what you can to get cool air flowing over those
components, including obviously your CPU. If the fan on the side is low in
the case, then given the above explanation you normally want it blowing in,
right?

With motherboard connectors you get RPM monitoring. Otherwise, I don't
think it matters. That is going to be a loud case by the way.

Thanks for the tips! I know it's going to be loud, but I'd rather it be
loud than keep having the hard drive screw up my work because it
overheats..

i;d connect the fans to the power supply...
they may overload your motherboard

i;d be surprised it you really need 5 fans all running
you may want to moitor the temp with different combinations of fans

Top and back exhaust, all other intake.
Run all you can straight off the power tails. If you need control, get
a rheo bus or the like,.

If you are having problems with a hot hard drive, what you're planning isn't
going to help much if at all. You want cool air blowing directly over the
hard drive. I'd leave out a few of those case fans and install a hard drive
cooler in the empty bay right above the hard drive. There are solutions
too, such as a heat pipe, etc.

Well the old case only had one 80mm fan intake and no room to install
and exaust fan at all. And with the configuration of the editing
hardware in the case there just wasn't any air getting to the scsi drive
at all, so I'm hoping that this will be a large improvement.

Oh and I forgot to add that one of the 80mm intakes mounts in the hard
drive slot and blows directly over the SCSI drive.

That should solve your problem (if overheating was indeed the problem) - now
you can think about dropping a couple of the others if you want.. :-)
