Couple of questions - harddrive related I think

G

Guy GIlliland

I've had several things start happening on my system
recently:
(1) I get a message "SmartPlugIn Fault Report Drive
xMtxro6 2Y050P-... is reporting: Drive percentage use
has exceeded 90%"
What does this mean? I think it's referring to a newly
added harddrive (250GB) that is nowhere near that full.

(2) I've had some trouble in booting, but not
consistently. After the windowsXP splash screen the
screen shows it wants to do a CHKDSK on my new harddrive -
it does and then it takes up to 1 hr to boot all the way
to Windows. Boot to Safe mode works just fine.
What's the deal?

My system: Windows XP Pro, Intel Pentium IV, C-drive
Maxtor 120 GB, D-drive Maxtor 80 GB, secondary IDE
controller connected to CD-R and DVD-R, Maxtor SATA 150
controller card (PCI) connected to third Maxtor harddrive
(250GB) recently added.

Thanks
Guy

Did you install the drivers for the SATA controller card?

Did you turn on LBA48 in Windows so it can see the drive. Any drives larger
than 137Gb need this switch turned on.
