Couple of hopefully simple questions

Is there anywhere I can find out what "settings" are "distinct" rather than
global for all users, e.g. things like mouse ballistics, sound card mixer
settings, icon and desktop grid size, etc. The reason I ask is because it
appears the screen resolution is global, e.g. I backed res off to 1024x768
in Guest account then logged back in as Administrator and it remained at
1024x768 and not to what the Adminstrator's res last was, e.g. 1280x1024.

I basically want the Guest account to be easy more like a kiosk with limited
number of choices on desktop and as little I can manage under the start
menu.

Is there any way of "directly" specifying a background picture in a folder
similar to the method 98SE provided. "Customize this folder" doesn't seem to
offer any means of doing this. However, I did note that folders set to have
a background pictures under 98SE display with the specified picture when
viewing the folder under XP. That impies the underlying "logic" is still
there. It also implies one can at the least edit and copy the said folders
"desktop.ini" file, editing as appropriate. That seems rather clumsy. Any
more direct means?

I'm used to basically setting some image background for every folder I
create as I find it helpfull in easily recognizing which window is which
when you have a lot of them open at once (especially as I use dual and
sometimes triple monitor setup).

Your questions are hard to understand. Your "mouse ballistics" are scaring
people away like a minefield ! Use simple understandable English. Some
people that might reply to your questions in the future , do not use English
as the first lanuage. What is a "kiosk" Jym

Example one :

Log in as Guest and set screen res to 1024x768. Log out.

Log in as Administrator and res is now set to 1024x768 rather than as when
previously logged in as Administrator when it was 1280x1024.

It appears to be one screen resolution for all users?

Example two :

Under the Control Panel applet Mouse you can control/set various
characteristics for the mouse, how fast it moves etc. and as well usually
re-assign what things like the middle button and scroll wheel do.

Again, is this system wide for all users?

The original question was simply is there any url etc. that lists what's
"universal" for all users and what's per user.

Hi pip,

You can modify and restrict settings by means of policies (watch out,
that you do not include the administrator account), going to Start >
Run > gpedit.msc
and going to administrative templates, here you can limit what other
users do in relation to IE use, start menu, taskbar, etc.

Good look

Is this available on XP home? I recieve a cannot find message when following
you instructions using "gpedit.msc". Jym
