Hi,

I have noticed that the countif function in excel 2007 beta 2 tr1 (have not
tried this in the old beta) only matches on the first 14 chars of a string (a
unexpected result). I observed the error when I tried to count based on a 16
char long string.

Have anybody else observed this?

regards

Please give an example.

For instance:

Row 1
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa1
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa2

Now, if I countif based on the criteria aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa1 in row 1, then i
get 2, instead of 1.

Sorry to have taken so long to get back. I have not been able to reproduce
your example in B2TR. Have I misunderstood your example, or was it fixed in
a subsequent release that you didn't install?

I placed
=REPT("a",17)&ROW()
in A1:A2 and
=COUNTIF(A:A,A1)
in D1, which returned 1 (as it should), not 2.

I also tried it with values instead of formuals in A1:A2 with the same result.

That must be it, since I still encounter the "error". Maybe it is linked to
the type of file format used.

Anyways, I can work around it, and since I am the only one experiencing the
problem, I will simply work around it.

Thank you for your time.
