Can you provide a sample of the crosstab record set and what you mean by
uniquerecords?

I am having [Institute] table. One applicant can apply
maximum of 2 departments undr the same institute. My
fields in Institute table is InstCode, Deptcode. Now I
want to count No of applicants under each instt. but my
crosstab query is counting 2 if applicants applied for two
depts, actually it should be 1. I dont want to put dept
details in another table. because it leads problem in form
designing. kindly advise. thanks for your help.

I'm lost. I don't know or understand your table structure. You haven't
shared your crosstab SQL or a sample of records or output.
