Could not open install.log file

I can't seem to uninstall anything. Everytime a pop up
says can't open install.log file. Any ideas would be
appreciated as I have loaded loads of software onto my
80gig and now need to clean it up a bit! I don't want to
risk any data by reinstalling windows fresh, as I have
loads of mp3's (About 40gigs worth!). I also did an
upgrade install recently so fear the system restore
function won't go back far enough to eradicate most of
the (junk) software I have been trying out recently. I
may have inadvertently wiped some vital files trying out
some reg cleaners to try and speed up my system.
Sounds like a hopelessly stupid situation to be in, but
i'm sure you've all been there at one point. It's the kid
in a candy store syndrome!!

Pete, back up your data and do a clean (format the drive) install of
Windows. The simplest, easiest, and most effective thing to do.
