could not log after chnaging domain/workgroup

I' m definitely a networks newbie :

My wife wanted to work at home with her laptop. I switched
the network ID properties from 'her offices domain' to 'a
new workgroup' (named after our home network).

Windows 2000 then asked to restart but any login attempt
would now fail, stating that the login or domain is incorrect.

Any hint ?

Get with your wife's support folks at work to fix the immediate damage, then
have them instruct her on how to use the laptop off-network. If they say
no, then don't.

The only way you can log in is by using the local admin account & password -
but even this will not 'restore' anything or give you access to your old
domain profile. She will need to bring the laptop back to work and ask the
domain admin to rejoin it to the domain. He or she will need to know the
local admin credentials on the laptop. I suggest a sheepish grin and a box
of donuts to sweeten the deal.

Note - you don't need to change to a workgroup just to access resources on
it. You shouldn't play with the laptop's network settings at all - this
happens often, and is one of the main reasons most admins hate granting
users local admin rights.
Once she's logged in using her domain account (using cached credentials),
and has an IP address on the home network, she can map drives, use printers,
whatnot, very easily - one way, in a command line:

net use x: \\computername\sharename /user:computername\username <enter>
or net use x: \\othercomputerIPaddress\sharename .....
