Good morning,
I have an access 2000 database shared over my network.
I have a folder that contains the database shared out to
certain users. They have read only access in that
folder. If one of the people that have read only access
to the folder opens up the database, no one else that has
read only access can. It gives the error, cannot lock
file. Is this something that I can change in the
permissions of the folder? Most of the people I work with
know jack about computers and I don't want them to delete
anything. Please let me know what I need to do. Thank
you for your time.

Respectfully,
Mike

All users of the file need FULL authority to the folder that the file
resides in. This is because as users come and go an LDB file needs to be
created, modified, and deleted in that same folder. The LDB file is
required for multi-user access.

It is a fundamental truth with Access databases that anyone who can use it
can delete it. Train your users and develop a backup plan.
