Could Internet Explorer crashes be caused by update KB918899?

I've recently been having a lot of problems with Internet Explorer crashing
and giving error messages such as "the memory could not be read" or
"internet explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close". I think
(but I'm not certain) that the problem started after I last ran Windows
Update and installed Internet Explorer update KB918899. Has anyone else
who's installed this update been having problems?

And your Windows version is...?

See Known Issues section of http://support.microsoft.com/kb/918899

Assuming Win2K SP4, see:

Internet Explorer 6 Service Pack 1 unexpectedly exits after you install the
918899 update:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/923762/

Using Windows 2000 SP4.

Since the last Windows Update a few days ago, I have been getting both
unexpected exits (maybe 8-10 incidents) and the "internet explorer has
encountered a problem and needs to close" message (over 60 incidents).

See my previous reply in this thread, Confidential. (It's usually best to
begin your own, new thread here instead of piggybacking onto someone
else's.)

Hi, I'm using WinXP SP1. I've tried the workaround of not using HTTP1.1 but
it hasn't helped.

See if installing WinXP SP2 resolves the problem. (Support for WinXP SP1
ends Oct-06, BTW.)

Also see:

Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry
for the inconvenience":

I just want to add that the same thing has happened to me, using
Windows 2000, since the last update.

Is this update applicable to IE6sp2 (from my About IE
6.02900.2180.xpsp_sp2_gdr.050301-1519 Update Version:;SSP2;)

The content appears to be directed towards Iesp1
I'm having the browser shut down on both my XpProSp2 and XpHomeSp2 . A newspaper
site Thestar.com can have one link clicked and open and if another link is
clicked -shut down. Also, my banking site...main page opens but no links available.
Disabling http 1.1 in the IE properties did not make a difference.

I downloaded that updare referenced about but saved it to disk until I could confirm
that its usable on Xppro or home Sp2

| No.

<grin> the long and the short of it is.....NO
My other wishful thinking is that perhaps websites like my banking on line will
rewrite, correct or check their site code <lol>
