PC Mike

I have 8 PCs on my Network and used to be able to connect to them just fine.
I just installed SP3 and now can only connect to 2 PCs - the server PC and my
son who is running Vista Ultimate (non-SP1). Everyone else can connect to my
PC but I can't connect to theirs. Should I un-install SP3 and go back to
SP2---or am I missing something else? All the device drivers are working
fine. No errors...in fact, SP3 makes my PC fly! The other PCs are waiting for
a verdict before installing SP3. What can I do?

How are you trying to connect to the other computers from the SP3
computer? What exactly happens when you do it? If there's an error
message, what does it say?

Hi Steve:
I do not get any errors at all. SP3 PC only connects to 2 PCs and nothing
else. I've tried "Add Network Place", "Network Setup", and "New Connection
Wizard" but they don't solve the problem. As I'm writing this on my wife's
PC, I can connect to My PC, but from My PC, I am unable to connect to hers. I
connect as follows: The cable modem to the Server PC (just a regular XP SP2
PC, nothing special; I just call it a Server), then the Server to a 16-Port
10/100 Hub. Everyone else can connect to my PC, but I can only "see" 2 PCs:
The Server and my son's Vista Ultimate, non-SP1. I sure hope it's not an SP3
problem: my PC flies now!! Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

Hi Mike. I'm not sure what you mean when you say that you can only
"see" 2 PCs. How are you trying to see them? What exactly are you
doing?

Are you using My Network Places? In my experience, network access
through My Network Places is inherently unreliable, and I recommend
not using it. You can spend a lot of time trying to troubleshoot and
fix My Network Places, but I don't think it's worth the effort.

To access another computer, click Start > Run, type the other
computer's name in the box in this format, and click OK:

\\computer

Hi, Steve:
You're right---I was using My Network Places to "see" and connect to the
other PCs. I did what you said and added ONE of my other PCs in Explorer.
It's such a hassle trying to remember what the names of my other PCs are, but
at least that tip worked. As I said before, all was well until SP3 was
installed. Maybe I'll uninstall SP3...?! Thanks for all your help in this.
