could a dodgy motherboard cause BSOD? - I would like to know please as I am
getting an intermittant problem with this - Only when installing Windows
however. Any ideas?

Yes it could, but isn't the only possibility. Could instead be memory
modules or power or CPU overheating or ...

You might try running memtest86 for a while:

What exactly do you mean by "only when installing windows"?

Decompressing the cab files can be thwarted by memory errors or an
overclocked system, but we'll assume you aren't overclocking. You
might try running memtest86 for a few hours:

Yes a motherboard can cause a BSOD, as can RAM, Hard drives, Video cards,
weak PSU's, etc.. Almost any bad or dodgy component can cause a BSOD. More
information on what the BSOD says might help narrow it down some.
