With all due respect to you and your reply Jack,
I'm pretty sure that refers to Women, not Windows

If you have to ask you cannot afford it.

While no official pricing I believe has been released, the pricing scheme
for Vista will be similar to XP's I think. Home Basic Upgrade will probably
be around $100. I think Home Premium Upgrade will be around $140, and so on
down the line. Ultimate I think is going to be around $250 for the upgrade,
however I'm not sure. Hopefully someone else can come along and help more.
Me personally, if I get Vista, I'll probably get the Home Premium.

Cost vs.. stable machine. Speaking for myself, a up grade version in the
past has not be stable. I been playing with PC for over 30 years now. If all
you are going to do is the internet, a upgrade is ok. But if you need it for
home/office work, it would be best to buy a full version. Remember you get
what you pay for.........Jerry P.

What is the difference between and Upgrade and Full version?
I have XP Home, which will allow me to buy an upgrade version, right?
If I do a fresh install with the Upgrade, won't I end up with the same
thing as if I got the Full version and installed it?

The full URL for Vista Ultimate is incorrect. The correct URL is:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsvista/getready/editions/ultimate.mspx

The prices are on the Vista preview site with the description of individual
systems. At least they were a week ago.

They are still there

An upgrade IS the FULL version.
All you have to do is verify that you have the appropriate version of Windows installed on your
drive or insert the appropriate CD during the installation of the "upgrade".

Just remember you do give up the license to the system you 'upgrade' from,
regardless whether you upgrade or full install

It will be the same system

Just remember you do give up the license to the system you 'upgrade' from,
regardless whether you upgrade or full install

The only difference between the "Full" version and the upgrade is the
licensing and the costs.
If you have XP and am willi9ng to switch your XP license for a Vista license
the upgrade is the way to go

I think the true cost is not necessarily a measure of how much of a dent
does Vista make in the wallet, but rather does the cost to performance
ratio justify the expense. If I am going to pay a couple hundred dollars
for a new operating system, what will it do for me that I cannot do now
with what is already available? If all I do is surf the Internet, read
and send email, and do a few photos, then is there a real cost to
benefit ratio that can be quantitatively demonstrated?

I think the vast majority of people have no pressing need for Vista and
I would not be surprised if the vast majority of people will wait in
aquairing Vista until they are ready to purchase a new computer
pre-loaded with Vista. I also do not doubt that most people on this
group, including myself, will probably be purchasing Vista before June
1, 2007.

Just some random thoughts.
