You can take this with a grain of salt as it is Epson's own page, but
Epson Australia has published a chart of printing costs for several
printers (Epson CX3700, Brother DCP-110C, Brother DCP-115C, Canon
MP150, Lexmark 2350 and HP PSC1510).

http://www.epson.com.au/news/technologynews/costperpage.html

What surprised me is that the HP was dearer than the Lexmark!

It is interesting though that they have used Canon and HP's own test
results (see PDF here -
http://www.epson.com.au/downloads/pdf/Photo_Printing_Cost_Comparison.pdf)
rather than doing their own comparison. It appears to be fairer.

Note that one Australian dollar equals approximately 77c US, and
cartridge prices are different in the US so some recalculation may be
necessary to get a truer picture.

It's fair in the sense that it compares printers in the same price
range. It's unfair in that it doesn't compare the more expensive
printers. The CX3700 has 13 ml individual cartridges while the HP 1510
takees a 5 ml (1.66 ml per color) cartridge. But it is true that if
you want to spend as little as possible on an all-in-one, the Epson
will be far cheaper to run (at least until it clogs).

I find it strange that Epson is promoting the C-series printers as
photo printers, when many of the R-series are in the same price range,
and have far, far better photo quality. Replacing 6 cartridges is a
bit more expensive, and the RX all in ones are a tad pricey, those
could be some of the reasons they didn't use them to compare.

They compare a printer that takes the small #93 cartridge. I would buy
a printer that uses the larger #97 cartridges with a cost per 4"x6"
photo of ~$0.21 for ink, or use the photo value packs for a cost per
print (paper included) of $0.29 or less (USD). See:
http://h10060.www1.hp.com/pageyield/us/en/index.html for page yields for
various HP printers. See

for examples of photo value packs which include ink and paper.
