Cost of messenger service

I heard messenger will no longer be free, that we need to have a star next
to our screen name; is this true? thanks in advance.

The only msn messenger you have to pay for is the mobile version, if your
device doesn't already come with it pre-installed the desktop version of Msn
messenger is always going to be free
