My computer (XP Pro-SP2) was running super but lately I am getting the
following error:

Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupted.

\Windows\System32\Config\System

Please tell me what causes this problem and how to fix this problem. TIA.
Craig

This is a damaged registry file. One frequent cause is a hard disk problem.
If you have an XP CD, boot to Recovery Console and run chkdsk /r. Do this
BEFORE any other recovery actions. If you have a non-OEM installation, try
the reference from Will Denny. There can be other causes including
malware. Unfortunately, this is often unrecoverable. System Backup is the
only sure protection.

I've got the same problem, but I was trying to follow the insturctions but
all I keep getting is "the file could not be copied". (
c:\windows\system32\config\system)
Does anyone have an explanation of why it can't be copied.
