How do you get back into a PC that has been "repaired" by following the
instructions in KB307545, but unfortunatly missing the warning regarding OEM
installed OS's. I assume that this is why the RC does not respond after
selecting the installation.
How would one repair a corrupt registry on an OEM installed OS?
TIA

What brand computer and OS do you have?
Do you have OEM Recovery disk?
Did you change partition structure or format HDD?

D,

Many thanks, The PC is a "Mesh" (UK), the OS is WXPPro.
There is a recovery disc but this will only restore the PC to it's "factory
fresh" condition, I will lose all installed programs, work and account
settings.
The partition structure is 100% C drive and the hd was unformatted before I
ran SR the first time. The annoying thing is, is that after running SR as
instructed in KB307545, I was able to get into the OS as admin, I could see
all the user accounts and programs. I then needed to restart the PC to
continue with the "restoration" but then SR hangs because the OS was OEM
installed. I did not know this before I started the repair the owner assured
me he had a "Windows" disc.
again, many thanks,

Mike H

I would double check with MFG Tech support documents and technicians.

I looked at Mesh Tech Support. The Recovery method looks just like Retail
Win XP.
Install Recovery CD and choose "Repair" Install....NOT....."Recovery
Console" repair!
See http://www.meshcomputers.com/updated/index.htm

You may have to install application software but personal files should be
intact. If uncomfortable with this, could install HD in other computer and
copy files to whatever media. Then reinstall in original computerand perform
"Repair" install.

DO NOT use recovery console repair!!

Dennis,

You seem to have gone to no little trouble regarding this problem, a
thousand thanks.
Don't do recovery console, nor clean install.
I think that Recovery Console could be a none starter in this situation.;-)
Choose Repair current Windows
Installation. The link tells you that.
Will check this out in the morning.

I'm from Lancashire. Will let you know. Many thanks.

Sorry I found one more thing on website.
Go to http://www.meshcomputers.com/updated/support.htm (same page as
before). This time FAQ "Software".
"Repair with Recovery CD...." instructions. Note says something about
reinstall drivers from "Motherboard driver" CD.
Dennis,
The mb drivers are actually on a folder on the H/D, although they do have
drivers on their web site for a number of models, but not always the ones
that you actually need. Not too bothered about that though as the PC is one
sixteen identical ones the "patient" owns. I had thought of trying to copy
the missing/corrupt files from one of the other PCs but I would still need
to find a way of accessing the faulty PC in some form of command mode which
would be tricky without RC. I did try a "universal boot disc" which loaded a
lot of utilities into ram and gave me the option to search drives A,B,Q & T!
Very useful, as every drive tree seemed to be identical. (ram drive content)

Dennis,

The link speaks with forked tongue. When I ran the CD there was no
option to repair the installation, It said that there was already a
windows directory and if I installed to that (again, no option to repair
the previous installation) I would lose all account settings, programs
and possibly the document folders. I installed to a new directory
thinking that this would keep the info etc., intact. But when I tried to
get into the folder where a particular prog was installed to, I got the
old access is denied etc., I can't share it either.
