I have a Win2k server running SP4. It acts as the print
server for 3 HP LJ4200TN's, 2 HP BI2280tn's & a HP
Designjet 500 (All printers using TCP/IP). All printers
have been running quite happily for a few months until
today. When users print the documents come out as if they
have lost all formatting, some will miss data out
entirely. All drivers are up to date for the printers.
I've tried creating a new queue on the server for one of
the printers but get the same result. I've seen a number
of posts on the site about SP4 printing problems so I'm
going to try a re-install of SP4 tonight but would like
to know if anyone else has this problem.

Check the following registry key for third-party monitors. Remove any
non-default monitors:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Monitors
The default port monitors are:
- AppleTalk Printing Devices (When Services for Macintosh is installed)
- BJ Language Monitor
- Local Port
- PJL Language Monitor
- Standard TCP/IP Port
- USB Monitor
- Windows NT Fax Monitor (when applicable)

There may be a third-party Print Processor that is causing problems.
Disable the loading of any but the default (WinPrint) by deleting their
respective sub-keys from the following key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Environments\Windo
ws NT x86\Print Processors

Jason,

Thanks for the advice, I've re-installed SP4 & it seem's
to have resolved the issue but I will keep a note of the
above to check if it re-occurs.

Cheers,

Chris
