During the hurricane my cpu booted down after we lost power (
controlled by the UPS ). Ever since then, several desktop and start
icons are corrupted looking just white bars instead of the picture. I
right click them, go to properties and change icon to the correct one
but it still shows up as white bars. How can I fix this problem?

Running WinXP pro

Hi!

The easiest way to fix this will be to download and install TweakUI from
Microsoft. Once you have it installed, it will be in the Control Panel. Open
it, navigate to the Repair tab.

There will be a list of things to repair in the latest version of TweakUI
(older ones had buttons, but they'll do this as well, just in case you don't
get the latest version, which IIRC is 1.2). You want to rebuild icons and
then click "Repair Now".

You may not notice an immediate change, but after you reboot the messed up
icons should be gone.

Thanks....I played around a bit with the desktop color depth and
changed from 32bit to 16 bit and back and the icons reappeared.
Thanks for the help.
