Corrupted Hard Drive

My friends laptop has decided to die

It turns on but comes up with this message in the picture

and then when I insert the xp boot cd it comes up with this message (in the the picture)

Just wondering if any one can come up with any way of solving the problem.

The laptop is a Fujitsu Siemens Amilo L7320GW

I have run a ram test on it and the results cam back fine, so I know that's working fine but I'm just not sure what to do next.

Is buying a new Hard Drive the only option?

Will it boot in safe mode with networking?

If so try to find out what hard drive he has, maxtor, seagate etc, go to thier support site and download the software to check the hard drive.

Or in the search option use chkdsk.

See what they tell you.
 
it wont boot in to any mode but will run a boot disc.

When I put in xp boot disk it runs but when it says starting windows setup it comes up with the stop error

Its a western digital wd600ve drive
 
The Ultimate Boot CD you can download has testing tools for those manufacturers drives.
