Corrupted files

My CD-Rom and DVD drive have suddenly become un
recognized by my computer and do not show up when I click
in My Computer (I have Windows XP). As a result nothing
runs when I place a CD-Rom into the CD-Rom drive or DVD
drive. How can I reload the files that have become
corrupted?
