Corrupted files

When first turning my computer on, I have been getting a
message tht says some of my files have been corrupted.
How did this happen and how can I fix it?

If these files are windows system files, then try the

system file checker tool. Click start, run, and type in
this here; "sfc /scannow" with that space after the sfc.
It will ask for your XP CD to copy any needed files from,
and it runs as Windows file Protection. If you don't have
a XP CD, try to borrow one from someone.
