Corrupt User Profile

I beleive I have a user on the Network with a corrupt user profile. What needs to be done to create a new profile for this user and be able to retiain all user settings, files, certificates etc...I have found some info in the KB but if someone could either provide or point to detailed info for the exact steps to successfully accomplish this process I would greatly appreciate it.

How do you know its corrupt?
What are the symptoms?
Might be an easy fix.
