I have about 1,000 MP3's and as of about 1 month ago every single one had
ID3 tags and played fine. Now, on about 75 random MP3, the ID3 information
doesn't show up in windows explorer (when you add artist and track
information), the bitrate comes up as 0kbps, and the file won't play. But
the MP3 plays fine in winamp or itunes, and ID3 informarion is still in the
MP3 file because when i use another program like itunes or winamp, they can
read the full ID3 tag.

Has anyone any clue what happened?

Thanks,
Albert

There are different levels of ID3 tags. Perhaps explorer doesn't support the
extended type. But you'd be better asking in a more relevant newsgroup for
mp3's/players rather than the OS.

I am imagining a solution....when you play an mp3 with
winamp, I am imagining that doing so resets windows media
player, try starting media player and setting *all *file
associations on again. I hope this is all it takes.

Windows/WMP doesn't understand compressed MP3 headers. You generally
have to use WinAmp to edit them (by clearing and copying between tag
types) in order to make them uncompressed.
