Hi
I inadvertantly cleared the "admin" password in my secured
database. Now I am unable to logon to it (nor are the
other users able to). I get the error concerning
inadequate permissions.....Is there a way to fix this? I
do have an older backup copy so all is not lost. Just
wonder if there is a way to restore that .mdw file.
Thanks.

Hi Eileen,

Using Access 2002 or 2003:

If you secured *.MDW file is the default workgroup file
- Click the menu option Tools > Security > User and
Group Accounts
- Select the tab "Change Logon Password" and give the
Admin account a password
- Click Ok and close Microsoft Access
- Now try opening your secured database file (should be
prompted for User Name and Password)

If you secured *.MDW file is NOT the default workgroup file
- Click the menu option Tools > Security > WorkGroup
Administration
- Click the Join button to join to your secured *.MDW
file
- Then follow the same steps as above

If you are using Microsoft Access 2000 or lower then:
- Create shortcut
<full path to MsAccess.exe> /wrkgrp <full path to
your *.MDW file>
- Double click on the newly created shortcut
- Once Microsoft Access is launched select the menu
option Tools > Security > User and Group Accounts
- Select the tab "Change Logon Password" and give the
Admin account a password
- Click Ok and close Microsoft Access
- Now try opening your secured database file (should be
prompted for User Name and Password)

IMPORTANT: if you are NOT pointing to the correct *.MDW or it's NOT your
default then you will be opening the secured *.MDB as the Admin account

I hope this helps! If you have additional questions on this topic, please
respond back to this posting.

Thanks Eric - I was able to restore the file from the
backups fortunately. Hopefully that will not occur again
but I will save your instructions just in case.
