corrupt favorites in IE 6

Hi

I have a PC running W2k, IE6 sp1 that has problems with favorites being
displayed for a particular user. When you choose favorites from the menu
bar, no favorites are displayed, just a grey bar down the side of the screen
with nothing in it. If you click on Add to favorites, nothing happens. It
appears to be a corruption in the profile because if I recreate the user
profile, the problem goes away. I don't want to have to do that however
because I don't want to lose all the other user settings.
If anyone knows of a way I can correct this problem, then I woiuld be very
grateful.

Cheers

Graeme

Hi Graeme :-)

It may be that it is the Favorites or History folder that is corrupted.
But, first, try the following:

Clearing the Temporary Internet Cache -
Safely Delete the Temporary Internet Files
http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/delcache.htm
Note: Any links listed in your Favorites (including any pages you saved for
offline viewing) will not be deleted when the History is cleared normally.
Therefore, you must also check the box next to Delete ofline files on the
dialog box as well when you clear the Temp Files to be sure all files are
deleted.

If sitll no joy..
Go to Tools>Internet Options >Advanced tab
Uncheck "Enable Personalized Favorites Menu"
Click on Apply then click OK.

or..

"Internet Explorer Favorites are missing/empty".
http://windowsxp.mvps.org/IEFAQ.htm#favorites

Show All Items on the Start Menu or Favorites Menu
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/230596/EN-US/

and....

Display all the links on the favorites menu
Bookmark Wizard http://www.moonsoftware.com/freeware.asp
AMdead Link http://www.aignes.com/products.htm

If the above does not work then:

Create a new Favorites folder as per the instructions here
http://inetexplorer.mvps.org/archive/answers3.htm#favorites

Hope this helps.

Thanks Jan

That worked. It seemed to come right after doing the registry stuff but it
might have been a combination of things.
