Correct way to backup to cd?

I'd like to know the correct way to backup my web files to cd. The purpose
of the backup would be in case my computer should fail, the backup would then
be the copy that I would use to make further changes to the website.

I have been doing it by copying the web from My Webs to a cd. But I've
noticed that if I then copy the web from the cd back to the hard drive, the
web folder does not have the FP "globe" on it anymore.

Someone told me that the correct way to move the web is to open the web in
FP2002 and publish it to the cd.

So what is the correct way to backup the web to cd?

Thanks

Publish your web to a folder, burn the folder to the CD.

If and when you need to restore from the CD, you will need to go through the web and
remove the read only attribute from all of the files, because windows makes all files on a
CD Read only.

There are tools you can download that will do this for you.
One is called Remover Pro

Then the way I've been doing it seems to be the correct way. And my files
are not showing a read-only attribute.
So do you have any idea why the folder does not have the "globe" on its icon?

Thanks

Either because there is a hidden desktop.ini file in your web on your
computer which does not always get published or the vti file that it
references doesn't get published

It is the desktop.ini file that gives the folder the blue globe.

Opened in notepad it reads like this:

[.ShellClassInfo]
IconFile=_vti_pvt/fpdbw.ico
IconIndex=0
ConfirmFileOp=0
InfoTip=Stores your local web site

Which reminds me of a tweak I meant to post months ago and forgot about.

Because permissions are not copied to the CD.

Actually I just checked, it's the desktop.ini file that doesn't publish.

Ok, then open the folder in Windows Explorer and delete all of the _vti folders, then re-open in FP,
at that point FP should prompt you to let it make the folder a web / site.

OK thanks for all your help.

The backup is not that important if you have your live/remote site hosted on a server that has the
FP extensions, then you will always be able to get current copy of your site if your PC crashes.

The best approach for backup, is to use Windows NT Backup available on Windows 2000 and Windows XP
CDs to back up to a second HD.
