correct version?

An KB article I just read says that IE6 version
6.0.2600.0000 is for windows xp, which be fine except I
have windows ME. So, I'm wondering if this could be why
I've had nothing but problems with IE since I updated to
v.6? I tried the add/remove removal of ie6 and it only
gives me the option of 'repair' or 'add component' but it
also shows that ie 5.5 is still there (which also has
those 2 options available). I'm guessing there are files
missing? I guess my question is this: what can I do to get
rid of v.6 and start over with a clean slate?

thanks

If you have IE 6 installed on any system other than Windows XP, it's an upgrade from the original version supplied with that OS, e.g., Win98 thru Win2000.

But that doesn't mean that all of the system files are identical...there is some tailoring required for each OS version.
