Hi folks,

I was given a Microtek E3 scanner. It came with an Adaptec 1502 AE
SCSI card with an ISA bus. Unfortunately, my computer has no ISA
slots.

What should I look for in a compatible PCI SCSI card?

Thanks for any assistance.

Regards,
Mike

Adaptec 2904 is probably the most compatible SCSI-card there is.
You probably need a new SCSI-cable as well, the 2904 has a different
connector than the 1502.
If you use Win2000, NT or XP you also need the ASPI-drivers
downloadable from www.adaptec.com, search for a file called
aspi32.exe.
You should also download the latest drivers for your scanner.

My E3 has communicated fine with an Adaptec 2906 and a Initio INI-9100A
(actually, a surplus OEM variant of the 9100A that didn't have a
built-in external connector), for whatever that's worth; they're both
ISA cards, but I think they might imply that the E3 isn't too picky
about cards.

Actually, now that I think about it, I think the Initio is a PCI card.
I can't say that I'd necessarily recommend it -- I had two, and each
only lasted a couple of months before dying -- but I suspect that's more
to do with their having spent several months loose in a surplus bargain
bin than a fault of the original construction, so I wouldn't necessarily
recommend avoiding it either.

Adaptec 2906 is PCI also.
