Correct count of files on XP

I have noticed some very different counts of the number of files in
my XP partition.

If I use the properties window (right-click on right hand side of
Win Explorer to include all folders/files in C then I get a reult
of "multiple file types 56,800 and 3,700 folders".

However if I use a directory lister program
http://freeware.prv.pl/ then I get a result of 60,500 files and
3,700 directories.

Bit Defender online antivirus scanner gives me yet another
very different result

I know there are some hidden files but might there be such a large
discrepancy?

There are cab and zip files that contain files themselves also.
