I recently bought a new Western Digital drive, installed it
as a slave, formatted it, then used the utility that came with
the WD drive to copy the whole C: drive onto the D: drive.
It was easy as all git-out. The new drive appears to have
everything on it, and I did this ONLY to have a good backup
for when something goes blooey with my Master Drive.
I haven't done any testing yet, however.

Partition Magic 8 also has a copy routine. Drive Image 7 likewise.
But W-D's is much easier.

I've read that it's important NOT to let WinXP boot up after you make the
copy. Aparently if it boots and sees two copies of itself it gets very
confused. Never tried myself.

That's not true. Both my Master and Slave drive have windows XP installed
and I can switch positions and boot from either without any problems.
