copying Win XP onto a cd

Though I may already know the answer, I will ask anyways: Is it possible for
someone to make an exact copy of their windows xp hope edition that they
purchased from a retailer, and give me THAT copy so that when they sell
their used pc to me, I can ahve that copy as a back up in case there is a
problem?? Will that copied CD boot up and install (if I ever needed to
reinstall the OS of the used pc) smoothly or will there be missing files.

Used pc for sale has Windows 2000 prof. and she upgrade to Win Xp. She said
she could give me a copy of the installed windows but not sure it will work
if I ever needed to use it. She did say she could give me the W 2000 CD's
though.

Maybe a dumb question, but had to ask. thanks
 
You need both the WinXp update cd and win2k cd in order to retain the
licence, or to enable to reinstall

It sounds to me that the seller is wishing to retain their origonal winxp
upgrade cd and merely give you a copy, thats a breach of the license
Who knows what use they are going to make of the upgrade cd
 
And also the license along with it.

It is against the EULA for the seller to continue using the XP license that
is being included on the PC your buying.
Either the seller gets it or you get it, not both.
 
I have An XPPro disc that has been used over and over and over. Does this
mean that I am breaking the law when I am putting it on various of MY OWN
machines?

If it's installed on more than one machine at the same time, yes it does.

Yes. If you have several cars and just one set of license plates you can't
legally just move the plates from car to car unless you have a special
license to do so.

Not a good analogy - if you have a retail copy of XP then you can certainly
remove it from one machine and install on another.....what you CAN'T do is
to have it installed on more than one machine at any one time using the same
licence....

Well then GORDON I guess a person can't have one set of license plates on
more than one car at one time either can they?
