We use the copy project function to upload our web projects to our live
site. This is not exactly fast.
But the real issue I have is when I need to setup a new server I can spend
days just doing the Copy Project function to get all our web projects
uploaded to the new site.
One of the things copy project does is prepare the folder, create the
virtual dir, etc.

I guess the question is, is there a better way? Is there a bulk tool
somewhere or something that would expedite this work. I need to upload about
40 projects to a new server.

Thanks!

somewhere or something that would expedite this work. I need to upload
about 40 projects to a new server.
Recently I uninstalled/reinstalled IIS5.1 on my dev box, and in the
instructions they suggest backing up the metadata and then backing up the
virtual directories.

It is basically still a glorified file/copy, but it would reduce the manual
operations down to a small number of steps, back up the metadata, upload the
metadata to the new server, copy the inetpub directory over to that new box.
Three steps instead of 43+.

Good luck, HTH.

Could I use Metaedit to backup the websites and then restore them?
hhhmmm I'm not familiar with Metaedit. I used one of the context menus
(right mouse click somehere, not sure where off the top of my head though
:<) to backup the metadata.

AHA! Here's the link I used! :> GOT IT! :>
http://support.microsoft.com/Default.aspx?id=325889

Does that help? Although you're not uninstalling/reinstalling, moving
websites to another server are much the samething. HTH?

Thanks for your help. I used MetaEdit to export the IIS settings on one box.
Then imported them to the new box and voiala! a running setup with all the
projects working perfectly!

Thanks again
