Copying Problem

For some reason, copying between my external USB drive and my hard disk has
become excrutiatingly slow. Has anyone any ideas as to how I can
troubleshoot this?

Might USB1 v USB2 be a factor? Cabling can fool you into thinking you
have USB2 when it only supports USB1.

How full is the hard drive? Fragmentation of free space could be a
contributing cause. The more limited the free space the more it will be
fragmented.

Check the policies as to cached write on the respective drives and see if it
changes anything to make them cached. ((drive)/Properties/Hardware/Properties/Policies)

note that you see all the drives again in the Hardware page, pick the right one.
