This can be viewed in two ways:
1. You no longer have the file filter which depends on what applications you
have installed. Unknown to many users is that many application install file
filters and users take it for granted the OS supplies them. If you have
something like Microsoft Office installed or some graphic application that
supports JPG like Photoshop, Corel DRAW!, Publisher, and so on, then
you should have the filter.
2. Some web pages used a BMP file and not a JPG file.
The conundrum is this: if the web site gives you a JPG file, windows will
let you save it as either a JPG or BMP (because you have a JPG -> BMP
filter). But if the site gives you a BMP - in your case - you do not have a
BMP -> JPG filter.
Why Paint can't open the BMPs you copy could be because of many things like
file size, type of BMP, so on and so forth. Besides, Paint sux.
