Copying Kodak picture CD images into a power point presentation.

I am trying to put together a powerpoint presentation with the 300 photos that I took on vacation last summer. I have put all the photos in one large folder of jpg images -- approx 159mb. However, as I have tried to copy these images into a powerpoint presentation, after copying only one half of the images (the images are approx 500K each) the powerpoint file has already grown to 368mb. I am going about this in the wrong way (see below)

What is the best way to copy these images into Powerpoint? I have been opening the images with paint, then 'selecting' the whole image (select all), 'copying' the image, then 'paste special', 'picture' into the powerpoint presentation.

Elston,
First: Check your options and make sure that Fast Saves is turned off. After
you turn them off, do a save as to a new name. Next, don't use copy and
paste. Instead, use Insert--> Pictures--> From file. Finally, check out this

powerpoint presentation.
 
You need to 'optimize' your images, which means two
steps: 1) reduce the actual size of your images (similar
to resizing), 2) make the image k-size smaller.

There are several ways to do this, but you may need
something more robust than Paint. For example, Photoshop
can create thumbnails and resize all the images in a
folder for you automatically (also creating html pages to
display them in the process). You just need the images -
grab them from the folder that gets created, then you can
copy/paste the resulting photos into your preso. There
are many products out there nowadays to get your photos
on the web in an automated fashion (i.e. steps 1 and 2
above). You may be able to download a demo, or even buy
something, to get you through today.

Thank you for getting back to me, and so quickly! I am currently at work -- my project is at home. I will not be able to work on the project tonight, but I will certainly try your suggestions tomorrow evening.

Thank you for your suggestions. I had hoped to maintain the image resolution so the images are a clear/sharp when I crop them when necessaryand enlarge them to fill the slide.
I do have Photoshop at home on my computer (the program came with my Sony). I will look into the two step process that you suggested

Elston,

From memory...I believe a Kodak Photo CD contains the pictures in a
directory called "pictures or images".

I think from there, there is 3 (possibly 4) other directories to do with the
number of pixels in the images (e.g. small medium large extra-large).

You need to aim for the ones that are approx 1000 pixels wide to avoid those
massive filesizes
