HI

I have a Sony HI8 handycam (DCR - TRV265E). I wanted to copy the video tape
to PC and then to DVD.

I have used Picture Package provided by Sony through USB cable and I am
finding missing frames while doing so. But I can play these tapes on TV
without any problem.

Can you pl. help in resolving this problem?

If any other software can be used, pl. suggest.

Also, pl. suggest how I can retain the voice recorded in the tape? ( The
package is copying some background music by default)

I will be tthankful if you reply for these queries.

As you have discovered, USB (even USB2.0) is not as fast in real life as
firewire. If you have an option to connect the camcorder via firewire
cable. use that.

I'm not familiar with that specific Sony cam.
Normally the USB is for transfering still images from a
memory card fitted on cams.
When transferring video footage via USB, this will
involve a vast drain on a PC's resources as it captures
video and audio as seperate streams and has to convert
"on-the-fly" - it is processor and ram intensive and "glitches"
frequently occur. You will require an extremely potent PC to
successfully achieve video capture via USB.
If your cam has a firewire port and your PC is equipped
with a firewire card, that is a better option as the footage
is delivered as a "pre-processed cohesive digital package"
to the PC.
If your cam and PC are without firewire facilities, you may
like to consider an external hub that captures, processes
and delivers intact to PC, but they ain't cheap. See:

This is an excellent unit, Ideal for converting analog footage
to digital, but you will require a firewire card installed on PC.

As above, but this is S-Video and/or composite capture
as opposed to aboves scart capture - still need PC with firewire.

This is Pinnacles range, I'm NO fan of these products, but....
if your PC has No firewire, these devices are USB, but only
opt for the "hardware encoding" versions, these have on-board
processors that do the chore of converting and relieve the PC
of the task.
