Copying files between 2 Win2K machines slow?

Hi,

I have 2 Win2K machines, both are Pro and SP4. Both are connected to the
same local hub (10base-T), and one of them has a drive that is shared. The
NICs on both machines are set for 10base-T full-duplex.

I'm trying to transfer files between the 2 machines, and it is working, but
it's VERY slow. Is this normal? Is there anything that can be done to
speed things up?

Thanks,
Jim

Go to the "Advanced" tab of your network adapters and
set all of them to 10 MBits/s and half duplex.

Pegasus,

I forgot to mention that I'd tried that, but I couldn't get an IP address
from DHCP. I guess that I could've tried to set the IP address manually,
but one of the machines is a company laptop, and I don't want to mess with
it too much :).

Anyway, I've tried adding Netbeui and also updated the driver on the desktop
(a Linksys LNE100TX), and am running a test now. I'll try to post back.

Hi Anmol,

Those are not on, but I updated the NIC driver on the desktop machine, and
also installed NetBeui. I also replaced the hub that the 2 machines were
connected to with a 5-port switch, and things seem to be working faster now.

Thanks,
Jim
