Dave

Have been unsuccessful in copying Outlook (Outlook XP)
emails to a CD for future retrieval. Whenever I try to
identify a path beginning with D or E drive, whether
attempting via the Import/Export, Data File Mangement or
Archive function, the process slows and stalls,
eventually yielding an error message: "The specified
device, file, or path could not be accessed. It may have
been deleted, it may be in use, you may be experiencing
network problems, or you may not have sufficient
permission to access it. Close any application using this
file and try again." Any advice out there? This has to
be a common procedure so what am I doing wrong?

You can't open pst-files from CD as Outlook need to have read/write acces to
it;
Copy the file to your harddisk and remove the "read only" attribute

Thank you. But, how do I copy FROM Outlook TO a CD?
Must I first copy the files (email files in this case) to
a new file on the HD then copy that new file to a CD
after removing the "read-only" attribute?

Locate your pst-file and simply burn that file to CD but make sure Outlook
is closed during the burning process or it will fail.

Make sure you include hidden and system files and folders when searching for
pst-file.

By default it is located in
C:\Documents and Settings\%username%\Local Settings\Application
Data\Microsoft\Outlook\

You can also locate the file by using
Rightclick the root folder (probably Outlook Today)-> Properties-> button
Advanced-> field Filename
