In Outlook 2003, how do I copy my email messages and contacts to a disk. I
was using Microsoft Exchange Server and want to transfer this data to a pop3
account.

What are you using now?
Normally one copies data you want to transfer to an Outlook data file if it
isn't already in one.

Thanks for responding, Russ.

My email account has been coming through an Exchange Server which was
through my last employer. I want to cancel the Exchanger Server account
because it is causing havoc with my newly set-up pop 3 account (both of which
are setup in Outlook 2003), and I do not use it for email anymore since I am
no longer with the company. The emails and contact lists are important to my
next endeavor, so I need to retain that data. I recently tried to cancel the
Exchanger Server account and consequently lost everything. Had to restore my
computer back to the time and date I cancelled that particular email account
to recover the lost contact lists, emails and folders sitting in my Outlook.

By the way, I probably do not use proper computer terminology when
describing my problem, but I imagine you generally understand what I want to
do.

I have learned that when utilizing an Exchange Server, the data is saved in
an .ost file instead of a .pst file which requires expensive software to
convert.

Is what I am trying to do impossible?

Thanks for your help.

Be careful here. Courts have found that mail you sent and received while
working for an employer belongs to the employer.

Leave the Exchange account in place for now and in Outlook, click File>Work
Offline. Stop and restart Outlook. Now you should be able to copy the
contents of your Exchange folders to either your POP account folders or
another PST you create for the purpose.

Russ,

Thanks for replying to my request for help. Belive it or not, I have
managed to copy the important data and delete the Exchange Server account
without any loss of information.

Brian,

Thanks for your response. I have copied all of the important data to
personal folders, deleted the Exchange Server account, and surprisingly did
not loose any information.

I appreciate you taking time to respond.

I just hope you had your company's permission to export that data. It was
theirs, not yours.
