If you want to run the more recent versions of the ATI DVD Decoder, you need
the original CD in a drive for verification.

Tom Lake
you could try dvd ildlepro and burn it with nero...
maybe it will help...

I have a copy of the ATI catalyst CD, that came with the aiw9800. Just ordered
another one yesterday when I saw the crack expanding from the center of the
hub.

Since it'll be days or longer b4 the new CD arrives, I attempted to copy my
copy of the ATI CD.
And Nero just can't do it. It's copyrighted. [the copy] is copyrighted. IOW
When I made the copy it must have made a perfect mirror image. And I'm pretty
sure I used Nero to make the copy. So why can't it do it now ?

I see. Of course, there's the open-source Media Player Classic in a familiar
interface, and it has very good deinterlacing quality.
if your refering to my comment then here what i think.
the mentionned program as several tools to bypass dvd/cd protection
and work for me in several case. As the original cd of ati drivers is
protected whit a unknow anti copy feature is it most likely to be
potentialy one of the protection know by the prgram dvdidle pro witch
is the best to permit nero in its purpose.

Plus dvd idle pro dont use de-inter whatever you mention to encode dvd
it a program use to help duplicate protected dvd or cd. Like
preventing the cd-rom or dvd-rom to be locked (by the anti coy feature
in the ati cds) and by then prevent any copy from what ever program
you use for coping.

Prevents auto run of software from DVD's

As i said maybe it could help him in it back-up.

What extras does the CD have that you cannot download more recent versions
off ATi.com?

DL Clone CD and ClonyXX. ClonyXX identifies the copy protection protocol
and Clone CD copies the CD.

Well it seems copying it is simpler than you'd think.
I just took the CD, created a space on my HD, and dropped it in there.
inserted a blank CD, and copied the stuff from the HD with Nero to the blank
disk. copyright removed [NOT]. the copied CD itself still appears copyrighted,
but it works.

Far as I know the only purpose other than the installation, is the DVD
verification that I have the original CD. and it passed that test with flying
colors using the copy.

plus fwiw: ATI must have set this for overnight priority for $5.00 shipping.
unbelievable. it arrived today.

What you are doing is confusing the terms "Copyrighted" and "Copyprotected"

Two different animals here. All computer software is copyrighted, but not all
are copyprotected.
