Copying Binaries

Until recently I have had no difficulty copying binaries from Newsgroups to
CD's. Now that I wish to use DVD+RW's and/or messagesticks I keep getting the
same result. "Windows encountered a problem when trying to copy this file.
What do you want to do? Re-Try? Cancel?"

BTW, I can still copy those same binaries to CD's.

What am I doing wrong and how can I correct this?

Many thanks, David.

Can you copy from Newsgroup to hard drive? Can files be copied from hard
drive to DVD/messagesticks?

I hope you look back at your replies. Your reply was 50% correct, so I
clicked that it helped me. I can copy to HD (Shared Documents) but then comes
the trouble described in my original post. Does this give you any further
clues.

Thanks, David (Wassup).

It must be "stated" the even though DVDs are the same size as CDs, you
need to have a compatible DVD writer drive.

XP does not let you write to most types of DVD media directly, unless
you are using software like InCD or Roxio's Drag to Disk.

As for writing to memory sticks (Sony??) these must be correctly
formatted (FAT or NTFS) and must not be set to "read-only" mode. All
flash memory types (Memory stick, SD, xD etc) work the same way as
most hard drives / floppy disks.

Also, you need to try to save the files on a different folder than the
Shared Documents folder. This will verify that your currect user
account is "permitted" to save files correctly on the hard drive and
not just limited saves.
