Copying between presentations

I have 4 or 5 presentations open at one time and am trying
to create one brand new presentation so am copying slides
from each. None of the presentations have master
templates so I assumed that type-face/size/colour etc.
would automatically copy over (as has always happened in
the past). However, when I copy into the new presentation
some (most) of the typeface changes and distorts
everything on the page. As I don't have master slides set
up, I can't see what I am doing wrong. Also, some of the
type changes colour and text boxes suddenly have lines
around them! I am also having huge problems copying Excel
into Powerpoint - even by using Paste Special (Enhanced
Metafile). However, I know this is a known problem for
Microsoft so have decided to just grin-and-bear it.

Any help on the copying issue though would be so
gratefully received.

Versions make a huge difference in this, Amanda, which are you using?

Also, just because you have not made any changes in the Master, does not
mean that there is not one being used. The slides copied into the
presentation are reverting to the defaults established in Master slide that
you have not modified.

If you are using a newer version of PowerPoint that supports multiple
masters, than you can use the smart tag that appears after you copy slides
to specify that you want to keep source formatting. This will import the
slides without changing their formatting at all.

Post back with your version so that we can give you a little more specific
assistance.

ALL PowerPoint presentations have master templates, including the one you're
copying slides into. It may be a blank template, but it's a template (with its
own default color palette, fonts and so on) just the same.

See http://www.echosvoice.com/multipletemplates.htm for some ideas on getting
around the problem, though.

You don't mention *what* the huge problems entail. Hard to say ... but try
Paste Special, Link (as Excel object). Ungroup later if you want to break the
link.
