Copying a certain file crashes home network

While doing a backup over a home network I notice that
copying a certain file results in the loss of the network
connection (must reboot both computers). It happens to
be a somewhat large (10MB) powerpoint file. This is the
only file out of gigabytes that has this problem! The
problem is 100% repeatable. I have an HPNA (home
phoneline network) which recently has been quite reliable.

Experiments I tried:
1) Copying the file locally on the source computer
works fine.
2) Disk check on the source computer passes.
3) Tried making a copy of the culprit file on the
source computer, then tried copying that over the
network ... that fails too.
4) Powerpoint can open the file without problems both
on the source computer and the remote computer.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Try renaming the file to a simple 8.3 name.

How many levels deep is it in the directory structure? Try copying it
to/from the top level.
