I'm trying to copy a scene from a vhs tape (film) which seems to have some
kind of protection, I get a copy but there is a large white stripe in the
middle of the clip, is there a way to get around this problem?

Hi there,

YES !! you go to Maplins or a similar store and buy a Digital Video
Stabiliser (approx. US $40, UK £25) You feed the signal through that and
record it onto your camera. These devices are sold openly. What it does is
to remove the "unstable info" you can sometimes see at the top edge of a TV
screen. This also removes the Macromedia protection. I have one which I use
when recording a film on Pay-per-View channels Without it you cannot get a
good recording because of the way the signal is degraded.
