My old computer is sick -- dying, I think. Motherboard problem. It has XP
Pro on it (and ME and W2K also), and for whatever dumb reasons, XP runs from
the H: drive.
The whole hard drive in the old machine is 40 gig, so I picked up an
external drive and instead of playing with Ghost or other backup schemes, I
just created a half dozen folders on the external drive and used xxcopy to
basically copy everything on the HD to the external drive.
Then I bought a new computer with Media Center edition on it, partitioned
the drive, and have copied everything that was on the old H: drive to the H:
partition on the new computer.
I edited boot.ini on the C: drive so that it would show the two XP installs
and allow booting into either. I can select the Media Center bootup, so I
haven't broken anything, but when I try to get to the XP Pro install on the
H: drive, I get a message that in \windows\system32\config there is some
kind of problem. Hitting any key sends me back to the boot menu.
I need to know what to do next. Any advice is welcome.
