Hi,

I'm running XPHome with Word 2002. Why is it that whenever I want to copy
and then paste something to Word (or Notepad or Wordpad), if I do a CTRL-C
of what I want to paste and then open Word and try a CTRL-V to a paste, it
doesn't work. I ALWAYS have to open the application to which I'm pasting
before I do the copy action.

This is the only machine I've ever used that behaves this way.

It's almost as if opening the application removes whatever I have on the
clipboard.

Thanks,
Bruce

why don't you just use the right click...copy...paste....YOU are making
things difficult...

Archie is looking for an answer to his problem not another way to copy
something to the clipboard. CTRL+C does exactly the same thing as a right
click and copy, just as clicking Edit and then Copy.

Word 2002 does clear the clipboard on opening. It annoys me too.

I have the same problem with Notepad on this WinXPHome machine. It may
be a 'feature' across XP.

If it's just Word, I'm going to have to check what Word version I'm
running at work, because I believe it works just fine there (and works
fine with Notepad, there, too).

Thanks, I'll let you know.

Ok. I tested my Word 2002 SP-2 here at work, on two different machines,
each running on WinXp Pro SP-1. It works fine...opening Word does not
clear the clipboard.

I wish I could get it to do that at home. Argh...

Interesting

I have works suite so that is probably causing the problem in word.
Starting word while holding shift key does not fix it. It does not
seem to be associated with Word Add-ins as suggested in the articles
you quoted as there are none listed, although on the Tools menu there
is an item "Works address book mail merge"

But I do not have the problem with Notepad or Wordpad or any other
program.
