Copy-Paste problems with PPT 2007 SP2

I'm having font problems with ppt. Here's what happens.

1. I copy a string of text from another program (a bibliographic reference
from EndNote, as it happens) with italics in the middle and non-italic text
on either side.
2. I paste it into a text block in ppt. All the text from the first italic
through the end of the text comes up in italics.
3. I paste the same text into a new msg in Outlook. All the fonts are correct.
4. I copy the text from Outlook, and paste it into ppt. Now it's fine.

Step 3 shows me that the font information is contained in the original text,
but for some reason ppt can't read it. Any ideas why, or how I can fix this
problem?

Have you tried the various options in using Paste Special--such as "Rich
Text" or "Keep Original Formatting?"

Hmm. The only options ppt offers me are "Formatted text (RTF)" (which extends
the italics all the way to the end) or "Unformatted text" (which loses all
italics). But when I copy the text by way of an intermediate document, I get
the full pallet of options. "HTML" does what I want, and "Formatted text
(RTF)" gives the same result I see when going directly from EndNote (extended
italics). Any thoughts on how to get the HTML option to show up? (Or get the
RTF option to behave?)

FWIW, I've run into the same thing. But not always! This is something that's
started happening in PPT 2007.

In 2003 and prior, when I'd paste, italics were preserved and non-italics
stayed non-italic. Now in 2007, sometimes the text pastes in as completely
italic.

In addition, sometimes when I paste slides into PPT 2007 and say "keep
source formatting," my references -- with non-italic text and italic journal
names in the same text box -- become completely italicized. I've no idea
why, and it doesn't happen on all slides, but it costs me a ton of time. If
I paste those same slides in in PPT 2003 and say "keep source formatting,"
PPT actually keeps the source formatting and this bizarre behavior does not
happen.

I'm usually pasting the refs text in from a Word document. It could be that
EndNote was used to generate it (or used in the mix somehow), I don't know.

I'm sorry, I don't have a fix for you, but I can confirm that you're not
crazy and this does happen.
