Copy Paste problem

Hi,
When I select some text (it can be in IE or any other
program) and click copy or CTRL+C and then paste it into
Word or Notepad, I get some little blue bitmap or whatever
it is. But not that text I wanted to copy. Sometimes it
works normal and I can't understand what is happening.
Thanks in advance.

At first thought it would seem to me that in IE, you are
selecting text that is actually a bitmap, and then
copying it. Word is then thinking its a picture and is
trying to download it from the net. Unfortunately, i fail
to see what could be causing this in other programs (but
you don't mention what they are)

Sorry, in Notepad there is nothing to paste, but in
WordPad there comes the same icon (or picture) like in
Word. I tried to run clipbrd and there is also that icon.
After selecting text and CTRL+C in IE, if I click on
Paste special in Word,I have two possibilities:
1. Device independent bitmap
2. Bitmap
Explanation in Paste special window is: "Inserts the
contents of the clipboard into your document as a bitmap."
Interesting is, but not allways, that If I CTRL+C once
again that same selected text and paste it, it is OK, the
icon does not come.
I mentioned here IE, Word, WordPad but source can be
some terminal emulator and target can be Excel.

I can't think what could be doing this. Is a computer virus messing
with your clipboard? Have done a scan?

I am experiencing the same problem on a ThinkPad A31 with Win2000.
Using the clipboard viewer to diagnose this problem reveals that any
pressing of the navigational keys (up/down/left/right arrows, pageUp,
pageDown, home, end) subsequent to a COPY operation results in the
clipboard contents being replaced by PrintScreen! In a RTF editor (MS
Word) this means doing a copy, followed by some navigational keys,
then a paste will result in a PrintScreen bitmap being placed in the
editor. In a non-RTF editor (Notepad) this means doing a copy,
followed by some navigational keys, then a paste will result in NO
paste operation (since the clipboard contains a bitmap which cannot be
pasted into a non-RTF editor).

Copy/Paste functionality works normal provided none of the
navigational keys are pressed.

I've run McAfee scan with the latest engine and DATs, ran Stinger - no
viruses found. I updated the OS with the latest MS patches, and
update the ThinkPad BIOS all to no avail.

Is anyone else experiencing this problem? Does anyone have a solution
to this problem?

Many thanks in advance!

I also have this problem, my observations are. If I open word before doing the copy from IE or similar it all works fine. But if I do the copy then I paste I get this "Mobile Phone" looking bitmap. Not sure what the problem is. I have Windows/Office 2000.

The Office clipboard clears the Windows clipboard when it's launched.
That's why opening Word before you copy/paste works as expected.

If Word came installed as part of Works Suite then the Microsoft Works
Suite Add-in for Word (COM Add-in) is known to clear the contents of the
Windows Clipboard when Word starts.

Start Word first, then copy and paste.

The following does work, I've done it myself.

Or follow the procedures here to remove the Works Suite add-in

WD The Windows Clipboard Content is Modified When Word Starts

This applies to Word 97, Word 2000, Word 2002 and Word 2003.
