Michael

Hope someone can help:

I'm using Office 97 on W2K and XP platform. When I try to
copy a graphic from Excel to PowerPoint, I get the
following message. "The server application, source file,
or item can't be found. You should reinstall the server
application." I am not running any network application,
but the Excel files are kept on a file server. The files
are copy to the desktop before the copy & paste (to
deferent OS W2K & XP for troubling shooting.)

If anyone can help?
Thanks Michael

Tom, thanks for repling. Am I understanding you
correctly. Both Excel and Powerpoint are installed on the
same computer. The complete Office 97 packet is installed.
Or did I misunderstand you all together.

Regardless of where the files are, Powerpoint must have
access to an installed version of Excel on the machine
that is being used to construct the presentation in order
to render the files as images or to add them to the
presentation as objects. If they are installed as
objects, Excel may be required on the presentation machine
as well, I believe, unless special precautions are taken.
However, if the intent is to use the Excel data as image
rendering only, they can be rendered on the source
machines and saved in a purely graphic format (.gif, .jpg,
etc.).

See if this PPT FAQ entry helps any:
