How do I tell Windows Mail to leave a copy of the mail on the server? Good
thing when I am on the road.

In Windows Mail, go to Tools > Accounts > Your Account > Properties >
Advanced. The bottom option "Leave a copy of messages on server".

Hope this helps!

Click on Tools, then Accounts, then your email account, then Properties,
then Advanced. If there is no check mark in the box before Leave a
copy of messages on server, click on this box and then Apply. Make
sure that one of your accounts eventually deletes the messages, though,
or the server will eventually refuse to take any new messages. Click on
OK and then Close.

Mr. Harper, I wish that was all it took but I have not had such luck.

This past summer I bought a Sony Vaio with Vista Business loaded
thereon. It has been nothing but a pain and nightmare for a number of
reasons. However, at this time I will limit my complaints to Windows
Mail.

When I first got my new laptop I properly set up the mail client for
POP access to my Yahoo account and specified that I wanted copies left
on the Yahoo server. For whatever reason, Windows Mail constantly
(and I mean at least 10 times since my purchase this past July), "un-
checks" the box for the option "Leave copy of messages on server" and
then downloads all my messages OFF the Yahoo server. As you can
probably imagine, I was FURIOUS when I realized that every email that
I had received since December of 2003 was no longer on the Yahoo
server, with no way for me to reverse this course of action.

In fact, it just did it again today. Have you heard of this problem?
Is there anything I can do to stop this broken program from
misbehaving? Why does Microsoft sell defective products?

I'm so pissed right now.

I have not heard of this problem before.
One way to keep messages from being removed from the server
is to login via webmail and move the inbox messages to a custom
folder. Pop clients can only download from the inbox mailbox on
the server.
